Since my computer has come back from the repair shop for some reason the Screen Resolution keeps reverting to 640 x 480 pixels instead of staying on 1024 x 768 pixels..Can anybody tell me why ?

Right click on the desktop, and select Properties then Settings.
See what it says under Display on this Settings page (some Monitors do supply a CD, install the software from that)
Now press Advanced then Adapter to see what graphics card / adapter you have and make sure it is the right one. If not install the correct graphics driver.

One other problem could be your mixture of Screen Resolution and Color Quality.
Right click on Desktop, then select Properties then Settings.
See the Color Quality. It may be set at "Highest 32 bit" or "Medium 16 bit"
If it is set at Highest, it may be your graphics card cannot cope with 1024x768 AND Highest together (this does take more power).
Try reducing it to Medium 16bit and then put it at 1024x768.
It may be able to cope with that.
