My clock, bottom right hand corner, daily loses 3 - 4 minutes. From previously asked questions I think the battery in my 'motherboard' needs replacing, which sounds a bit complicated to me. What are the consequences of me not replacing the battery??

PC's are terrible for keeping time but if your are on Windows XP you should right-click the clock, select "Adjust date and time", click on "Internet time" and press "Update now". This will sync your clock for you and you can also set it up to sync on a regular basis
Are you using a Dell?
