sounds like you got a system virus. csan you run a virus scan and see if it detects anything
Is it a particular program that doesn't respond or Windows itself just hangs when its starting up.

You know the black screen with the blur bar across the bottom just scrolling away forever?

when i go into a programme it comes up on the top not responding, then will say do you want to end this programme, sometimes just disconnects me from a prog,
thanks guys for ya help
What virus protection are you using?
What are you doing?
What prog (s) isn't responding?
Does windows say not responding?
or is it just not responding
(if it says NR - the kernell is still running - so it's probably a proggy causing the probs)

Zone alarm 7 can take an incredible time (compared to 6) to check things from the net.

type ctrl+alt+del
if it works look at the applications running (or not)
work through the tabs
any processes taking lots of CPU time (except system idle)
what's the processor doing
go get a drink
do things get going again?
