I have a avi film on my pC and I want to put it onto DVD . I have tried wstching on my PC and the sound is superb but no picture only patterns - I am only a novice and clearly need your help. Please advise in simple term. Thanks

I assume you mean that the patterns are displayed on your media player? If so, it may mean that you don't have the codec for the avi file installed - it could be a 'divx' codec. Try searching for a free divx player and try that.

get the k-lite codec pack from http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/ that should sort out most of your video playing needs
I wonder whether a standard DVD player will work with a disc created from an .avi that is encoded with a divX codec. Your resulting DVD may only work on PCs that have a DVD player and the correct codec installed.
Even when you get the correct codec,the movie will only play on your pc,you need to convert from AVI to MPEG if you want to burn to VCD,SVCD,DVD.I use Cucusoft video converter to convert all my movies to MPEG,it works fine,but is a little slow.
