Scanner glass

Help please !!
I have a HP 5400C scanner but unfortunately the underside of the glass has somehow become very dirty. I have contacted HP asking if I can do this myself - you can imagine what their answer was !! Does anybody out there know if this is possible (there only seems to be 4 screws holding the top and bottom together), or alternatively, somewhere that would do the job for me. Any help would be appreciated

The HP website advises that it's not possible to clean the underside of the glass, "due to electrical shock hazards". However, the site does provide instructions for some models. These don't include yours but you might find something similar here:

PS: I think that this site is less likely to be directly helpful - keep clicking 'next step' to see what's involved - but it does suggest a possible cause of the problem. It might be worth keeping this in mind when you reassemble everything:
