should i reduce the quality of my dvds?

I have recently downloaded some films and some tv programs, now with the film, it said it was too large to fit on a standard dvd. Should i reduce the quality or should i burn it onto a dual layer dvd? If i should reduce then which is the best software to use. If i shouldn't where is the cheapest place to buy ulayer dvds. Play.com do 5 for �17.99. Thats not really economic enough for me. I apologise straight in if this question has arisen in the past.

how big were the files you downloaded ?

a standard movie download is usually about 700 megs and when burnt as movie format fills most of one standard disc.a dvd can hold a 2hr movie.

just checked and the movie is 700mb

it was only just over the size of the dvd.

no-ones thinking of cd's.a 700 meg movie when converted will fill most of a dvd !!!!!!

squirtle,when you go to burn it should warn you that its too large but once you ok the message should continue with the burn process,.

Hi. It is possible to fit three films on a 4.7G DVD with good quality playback. If you can only get 700Mb on a DVD then you might want to get a different converter programme.
DVD Santa- WinAvi- DVD Shrink to name but three.

Thnks everyone, i have been using nero and it did prompt me with message saying it was too large so i will try ok'ing it and see.
