can any one tell me please how to connect a HP laptop to the telly. i have a couple of movies on the laptop but i want to watch them on the telly so everyone can see and hear it. what wires would i need and where do i plug them in......... i have one of the old telly that is not flat screen. ,.,, its massive........ the help would be appreciated.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You need more than just 'wires'. The signal from a laptop is not compatible with that required for a TV. You need something to convert the signals to a suitable format. Maplins sell this:

The output from that device has to be plugged in to the 'AV' (phono) sockets on your TV (unless you've got an S-Video socket, which sounds unlikely) and the TV switched to 'AV' rather than any numbered channel. If the TV only has a Scart socket, and no AV sockets, you'd need to buy more leads, to convert from 'AV' to 'Scart'. (If the TV is really old, with no Scart socket, you'd also need an 'RF modulator', which would cost another �30 or �40, so that you could use the aerial socket).
