dvd player no audio

tried to play a dvd but was unable to get sound/ speech of characters....background sound was there think i had this problem when initially installed but cant remember how to solve it . tried dvd in other player its ok ..tried just dvd and tv connected not v box problem is there it must be that the settings in the dvd player have altered since installation of v box........manual is no help any help much appreciated..............
