WMP problems

I have a selection of video files in various formats, and want to have them running like a jukebox on my second monitor which is my TV. (like MTV but without the all the bloomin adverts) Im currently using WMP10.
HOWEVER, it keeps stopping showing the video on the second monitor. it only seems to do this when the file format changes between the last played song and the next... i.e. - AVI to MPG, or FLV to AVI.
Sometimes it will ocme back on on the next song, sometimes not.
I know alot about computers but this is bugging me, and im hampered by the fact that the computer in question is not connected to the net, so have to update via USB sticks.
Currently using Windows XP, ATI graphics card, 40" LCD screen and a very old computer (512mb RAM, 1ghz processor)
Any help would be great, or if anyone who know a good Video media player that can use playlists, & FLV, AVI & MPG formats

The media player which is most frequently recommended by contributors to AB is VLC. (It's also been widely praised by technology programmes on BBC TV, Radio 4 & World Service, as well as by several PC magazines):

(VLC can cope with virtually all video formats, including FLV, and doesn't suffer from the 'missing codec' problems frequently associated with WMP. Playlists are supported).

Thanks Chris,
But as far as im aware, both of these media players dont allow flexaility with playlists and arangement of consecutive media files without crashes & similar errors than i'm having (maybe i have used older versions)...
WMP or Realplayer manage to organise vast media librarys (although both of which seem to have problems playing various media types)
Surely there is a free media player that combines various video media formats, with playlists... it cant be that hard can it?!?!?!?
