Help!! My panasonic vdr-m53 can't finalise disk!

I have just purchased a panasonic vdr-m53 camcorder (which I think must be an american model) but it came without the ac adapter/charger. The camcorder works fine and I can charge the battery with the battery charger but apparently there is an ac adapter/charger needed to finalise dvd-r disks on this machine - you can't do it using the battery alone. Anybody have any ideas how i can get round this as I don't seem to be able to find an adapter/charger anywhere on the net. Can I use another method? Many thanks.
