which dvd recorder to go for?

I have been thinking of buying a dvd recorder now for a whie.The problem i have is which 1 to go for?.What should i be looking out for? i do have a budget so i'm not wanting to spend over �250.I mean this morning i saw an ad for a dvd recorder at Woolworths for �179 i think it might be their own make,i guess at that price it can't be that great. If anyone can help me out that would be great

and model DVR-8000. You can go to Kelkoo.com and do a price comparison but it should be cheaper than most.
I have the DVX 6600 which plays mpegs and avi files and has been superb.
you got choice of dvd-rw[many manufacturers] or dvd-ram[panasonic and maybe hitachi] - dvdram is better but dvdrw has more softwares and availability. So if you just want to record tv programs, get dvd-ram because it is easier and better but if you want to do creative editing of recordings with your pc, you be better off getting dvd-rw. i have dvdram it took me 6 months to get good softwares for dvd editing, okay now with tmpgenc but it is tough to get softwares.
