has worked for the last year but now when i try to connect to the internet i am told that i am not connected and please run connectivity check. this i do then asked to check leads switch of router then reconnect, continue with connectivity check. eventually i have the message that i have successfully been reconnected. this now happens everytime i swtch on the computer.

obviously a faulty setting somewhere. any ideas will be very welcome. device manager ok.

Have you tried resetting the router? All routers have a reset button - usually one you can depress with the end of a paperclip or similar object. You have to keep it depressed for up to 30 seconds.

Are there other computers, and do these connect?

Whatever the problem was it seems to have fixed itself.

Thanks for your suggestion, I shall keep it in mind if the problem reoccurs.
