First you'll need to copy the movie files from the dvd to your computer. Then convert all of the files you copied from the dvd into .avi. Then go to moviemaker and import all the clips and problem solved. If you request any links from me you will have to post what you want and what OS you running.

Hi thanks for your help. we use Microsoft XP. not sure how to convert the files to .avi? any further help very gratefully received. D
Only other info i require at the moment is,
What the extension of the files you copied from the dvd to the pc are.

it looks like a UDF file. when you double click on it in "my computer" it opens in Windows Media Player. Hope that helps. D
The best way to do this in future is to edit the video in Windows movie maker which comes free with win XP. Connect your camera to the PC using firewire, open movie maker and choose caputre from video device.
Movie maker can import avi, m1v, mp2, mp2v, and mpeg, it cannot import from dvd as it is a slightly different format.
OK, i've just tryed this method on a few files on my PC and it seems to work 99% of the time.

1.Open the file in windows media player and start the file playing.

2. Go to file and then save as and keep the original filename but add the .avi extension to the new file.*

3. Try importing the file in windows moviemaker.

* - DOn't panic, if you get an error message saying "Unknown error" or media player stops responding, just close the program and the file should be there.

Hope this helps, if not post back, and post any error messages you get in moviemaker.

hi, when playing the dvd in media player, the "Save as" option is greyed out, which usualy means you cant access it.... sorry but any other ideas. D
1.Download this program and install the files:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.h tml
2.Open the UDF file in VLC player and click "Wizzard" located on the file menu.
3.Select transcode/save as and press next.
4.Press select stream and then on the first page of the dialogue box select the file. Press ok and then next.
5.Click transcode video and click on mp4.
6.Do the same with the audio and click next.
7.Click next again, make sure mpeg TS is selected.
8.Choose your file destination.
9.Rename the extension to .mp4 and it should import into windows media player.
If not the technique is usefull for other things so don't discard it.
10.GOOD LUCK, post back if any problems occur, the next step is a dvd ripper.
