msn messenger conflict

My windows messenger 7.5 is conflicting with an older version previously installed, but I cant find it under "Add or remove programs".
I have an ancient version of messenger on my pc which I can never find to remove it. I also have version 7.5 which is the one I use, but when I use MSN Explorer it wont allow me into version 7.5. I click on "sign in" and it does nothing.
The only way that 7.5 is working for me recently is if I remove Msn Explorer, but I dont really want to do that as I find it faster than Internet Explorer.
Any suggestions?
