Overnight downloads - low power setting?

I often leave my pc on overnight to dl large files.When I do this, is there any way of switching the pc to some sort of low power mode?
Other than turning the monitor off I dont know what else to do !

the power saving settings as mentioned involve turning off the hard disk, which will stop the download, going into standby, which will stop the download, or hibernating, which will stop the download. if you want to save energy get solar panels or something to make up for the overnight usage (solar panels to be used during the day obviously)
