The Spuce Goose - Howard Hughes' Flying Boat, HK-1
-- answer removed --
The Spruce Goose does, indeed, remain the wingspan record-holder at 320 feet, but it has been in an aviation museum in Oregon since 1993 and only ever flew once.

As regards current "big birds", the Russian Antonov An124 has a span of 240 feet, the USAF C5B cargo-plane has one of 222 feet and the Boeing 747 has one of 213 feet. The Airbus 380, presently being built in France - though the actual wings are Welsh! - will have a span of 262 feet. (Can it be long before Howard Hughes' "Lumberyard" is outdone and the longest wings are possibly British?)
