This is often a sign it is too hot.

Either there is not enough room around the case to let the air circulate, or the inside of the case is full of dust or fluff.

You may need to take the pc case side of and blow out any dirt or dust with a hair drier.

Also gently prise it off the fans and heat sinks with a pencil or something like that. Best to do this outdoors.
Whatever you do don't use a pencil
if you end up with powdered graphite in the processor mount .... or between the tracks of the mobo ... your system will stay crashed (might as well go the whole hog ... and put it in the bath.

don't use a hairdryer either they are hot! - and so is yout processor ... hot+hotter = ?

a soft natural bristle brush - or one of the hand held low power vacs (if you must ... but don't get too near)
best to use the vac to pick up dust from the bottom of the case.
vehelpfulguy is right
toooooooooooo hot, sounds like the cpu fan isclogged
get it cleaned before blue screen strikes

i cleaned mine the way ACtheTROLL describes
if you have to detach it make sure the heat sink is properly relocated after i.e. (bonded) correctly, not too tightly
