how do i restore factory settings on my computer?

i am getting rid of my old desktop computer and need to erase info then restore to factory settings. i was told there is an erase software i can download. but can i download or find on the computer something to restore to factory settings or do i have to use a disc?

Would suggest using a freeware program called Eraser.
You can control what files you wish to erase and keep the OS
on the machine.
