Activating free o2 sim cards

Have just put it in my boyfriends phone and it can receive text messages fine, but won't let anyone ring it. Does it need topping up first? If so, why will it let us text but not ring?

yes you need to top it up first. Then within 48 hrs you will get a text from O2 letting you know you get your free texts

Thanks, I thought it must be that just thought it was strange how it let me send texts to it but wouldn't let me ring it ..

I was sent 4 of these and gave my son one and the same thing happened, but if you look on the packet it does say under 'how to activate' that the second step is to top up. It's not like buying a sim card with a phone where they give you a few free quid to get you started.

Oh I know I need to put money on it to ring and stuff, but I was just wondering why my own number wouldn't ring this new sim card, but would let me text it.
