I'm disappointed by the problems with the software - you had that too with yours - and the fact that it won't recognise wav files, wmv files etc. Also, the infrared is painfully slow. I know, I know, i got what i paid for!
I have no complaint at all with the k800i, i dont use the software and no longer connect the phone to the PC with the cable

I now use a 1GB memory card in the phone and transfer stuff back n forth using a USB card reader, its instantaneous

I downloaded some 'midi audio' files and it plays them eg. for my alarm clock ring tone
Give this a try Whickerman, I use it to convert wav to mp3 and its a free download.

to do it with free software go to
www.vnunet.com/downloads, or any other download site you may prefer, and type (Alt WAV MP3 WMA OGG Converter) in the searchbox.
it should appear. download it. even though i'm no expert, i found it very easy to convert wav to mp3.

I would recommend Audacity. You also need to download something called LAME to get it to export to MP3.

You can edit the sounds with Audacity which I would assume is important if you're adding ringtones.
