recording sky tv

I have heard that a digital tv recorder cannot be used to record sky only freeview, is this true? and if it is, is there a way round it? without subcribing to sky+. Many thanks.

You can record sky programs on any video or dvd recroder, unless the program is scrambled to stop it recording.
If by digital tv recorder you mean a pvr hard disc type recorder then most of these have inbuilt Freeview tuners so you cant record Sky+.

You would have to check that the box you have is Sky compatible.

As Ethel states you can record to a DVD recorder or video
A hard disc recorder with freeview tuner will still record sky programmes - you have to set it to record via the scart, so set the channel as AV or Ext, depending on how it is set up.
Ethel there is a difference between a hard disc dvd recorder and a hard drive PVR such as the the TIVo for example.
