It depends how much printing you plan to do. with the likes of epson it's directed towards people who want the printer to shoot out hundreds of pages each minute. for home use You can still get a good enough printer, whereas the ink for it isn't too dear. I have a basic cannon printer, and the ink is reasonable enough. Lemark makes good printers, aren't too dear to buy and the ink is cheap enough.
A cheap laser printer is what you want to buy, it prints pages out fast, an inkjet printer is if you don't plan to print alot in a short space of time.

Think about a laser printer, much more reliable, less expensive to run, and unlike ink jets, they don't fail to print if not used for a while. Look at the Brother HL-2030 costs around 63 inc VAT and the toner cartridges are only 35. Small size, fast 16 page min, USB connection MAC or PC. Price is not an indicator of quality BTW.
I've used many printers when at work, but the one we have at home is an HP PSC 1410 All-In-One (without fax).
It was approx 50 from Staples. The colour ink cartrides are 16.99 & the Black ones are 12.99.
