I've recently got a Nokia N95 and irt's got a barcode scanner as an extra; what use is that?

It reads info and gives website links - it doesn't work on tins of beans as far as I know. This is hugely popular in the Far East where people make 'bar codes' for their blogs and websites so the information can be accessed by readers like yours.
It prevents bots reading the information.
