I have just started using my stereo upstairs (I only ever sit in the sitting room upstairs during the winter) and the stereo is jumping like no-body's business. I have tried cleaning the lens with a Virgin CD lens cleaner. I have also cleaned the CDs I want to play with proper CD cleaning cloths. It is STILL jumping and clicking madly. Can anyone suggest what I can do to stop this, please?

If it is not jumping around when you use it downstairs it cant be the unit that is faulty can it ?
More likely is the floor suspension upstairs.
Does it only happen when you are moving about for example ?

I am sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. That stereo has not been moved or used for about 8 months. (I use a little radio when I am downstairs). I wasn't moving about. I suspect it is incredibly dusty inside and was wondereing if there is a really good way of cleaning it cos the clicking and cracking is driving me bananas.
couldn't be loose leads to/from loudspeakers?
hi,
could it be your speaker leads have come loose & not making good connections?
john
If a lens cleaner doesnt do the trick then yr laser is probably knackered. When you ran the lens cleaner cd how long did it run for?
Question Author
John, thanks for that, I never thought that it could be the cables, will check it later.

Reverandfunk - it ran for the 35 seconds that the chap at the beginning said it would run for!
Doubt it would be cables, they tend to be connected or not connected.

My lens cleaner runs for a few seconds if laser is clean and longer for the dirtier it is. 35 seconds seems a long time to me lol.

Try another lens cleaner lol

Think you are right Reverand. I reckon I need a top quality lens cleaner see if that shifts it. Otherwise I shall have to get a new one. Going to check the cables anyway, cos the cat likes to play under there!!!
Lol at the cat, at least CD players are dirt cheap now.

I dont bother with a stereo anymore just paid 20 quid for some speakers and a little woofer for my laptop
