Help! I have bought my son a PS3 40gb version from the Sony Centre well it came free (not) with a very expensive TV! I bit concerned about it not playing his PS2 games, the bloke in the Sony centre reckoned you could download a 'patch' and then it would be able to play the PS2 games, what is he on about??? Any other info would be gratefully received!

Hi there - I'm afraid the man at the Sony Centre has either mislead you or has got his wires crossed. You cannot play PS2 games on the 40GB PS3 model and there is/will be no patch to enable this. Backwards compatibility is one of a few features that have been cut for this model, along with card readers and two of the four USB ports.

If you want/need PS2 games to be playable, you will need to
take it back to the centre and pay an extra fifty pounds or so for the 60GB version, which restores the above features.
Though I'd add that PS1 games are, apparently, playable on any model of PS3.
