HD tv by satellite

Is it possible to:-

1. Get a privately installed dish
2. Buy a Sky HD box
3. Receive bbc ( and other non sky) HD broadcasts

All without a SKY subsription of any kind?

Hi vicmel,
You receive HD, as you say you can install any suitable dish, any HD sat box (not just Sky's) and get BBC HD services.
At the mo there is only one channel showing HD and just a couple of programmes (other than the Sky HD which requires a sub). More info from the BBC here.

There are plans to extend this trial further and possibly in the future provide an HD channel on Freeview terrestrial.

hi,if you have an old sky dish then thats ok,if not you could have a sky dish installed independently.
you could use a pace for around �100 or a humax or tecnomate do one with an option to connect an external hard drive to record on.
chan 4 going hd next month with bbc extending service and itv plans 2-3hrs per day hd service to begin with.
cost for a sky box around �300 if bought without subs.
and if used free to air then no hard drive recording option.
