Windows Media Player

My mpg and avi will not open in Windows Media 9 or 7.1 but they do open in Irfan View. When I try to open in WM I freeze up, so of course I ctrl+alt+del where it says WM is not responding and something called Ca. Does anyone know what Ca is and why I am freezing up. It is a pain. Thanks so much.

I had a similar problem with WMP - certain avi's would have sound but no video and the prog seemed unable to download the codec needed itself.
I downloaded a new set of codecs and everything works fine for me. I dunno if this is what's going wrong with you as WMP never froze on me before.
Is it just one file that does this or every avi/mpeg? It might just be the file that's wonky and Irfan might be better able to deal with imperfections?

i recommend u download DivX player. plays what WMP can play.

dont bother dl'ing the divx player just get the divx codecs(option on the webbie)

Thanks for the input. I tried all and none of them work. How bizarre. I do like DivX player though, too bad it isn't helping with this. These are little videos that I took with my digital camera and they do have the avi extention.When WM freezes this is what I get Microsoftvisual c++runtime library not responding. Irfan view does work so I guess that is what I will need to use. Thanks again for the time.
