I am also encountering the same problem as yourself, but not only when I click on a desktop icon. It sometimes happens when I am on this site, I then lose all my question/answer and I have to start again, most annoying.
I was getting this problem regularly after a Microsoft XP update a week or two ago. This morning a new update popped up (I'm on auto-update), which apparently was issued specifically to cure the problem in IE6 - and it has! Well, so far anyway.... ;>)
