I got ADSL in November 2003. My last electricity bill was higher than normal. Could this be due to the fact that the PC tends to be on continuously for long periods of time? How much electricity does a desktop PC consume? if you assume that it is on for 10 hours a day and that the standby function is not working (which it isn't - but that's another story), how much power is it using? Could those that know about these things, please express this in the terms of x 100W lightbulbs burning for 10 hours.

A friend of mine is an energy consultant and he says that a pc uses the same amount of electricity as a standard light bulb.Hope this helps.

Thanks! I now need to get the standby function working.
Do what I did, move into your new girlfriends house and she pays all the electric bills and I leave my pc on 24/7, sorted.
I actually find it difficult to believe but I did hear a long time ago that a PC uses the same amount of energy as something like a lightbulb. I still don't belive it though!
