New printer

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good printer? Mine has just died and after trawling the sales pages I am still non the wiser as to which is the best. I use mine for various things, photos, text etc. My price range is as cheap as possible!! Thanks in advance!

Asda do a lexmark printer/scanner copier for 29.99 with one of each ink cartriges included.
As the replacement cartridges cost 15 quid each just throw the printer away and get a new one each time.haha, just joking, thats not environmentally freindly. K.

I have a canon IP4200. I think it's a hard question to answer, since everyone has a printer, but not many people have experience of lots of them. I really like mine- it is good quality and prints fast. The only downside is that it takes 5 cartridges, and you have to have them all working in order to print- ie- you can't just choose the black one! They cost about �10-�13 each- not cheap. I use mine for photos and normal documents. The colour of the photos is never as accurate as the original, for som reason. Anyway, that's mine- I don't know how it rates- I guess you could look on amazon and read the reviews?

I looked into it a few months ago and found the Canon IP4300 to be good for what I wanted, which seems to be roughly the same as you.

Good points:

inks last a good amount of time, with good indicators. separate colours, so cheaper to replace, and the cartridges aren't as expensive as from some other manufacturers.

dual print trays... feeds from the bottom and top. bottom is good for A4 paper, to print text. means that you can put the printer right to be back of where you store it if you want to. top try can be used to load more specialist paper, such as photo paper.

good duplex system -- prints on both sides of the paper, without you having to turn it over manually (my old printer required this).

well the simplest way assuming that it has a built in driver and that you are running x/p and above is to put it in your comps usb port preferably a usb2 for better efficiency. And after windows has installed the driver ( pretty much does it for you), you are now ready to download music.
The fail safe way is to open "My Computer" find applicable device which normally says its a "Wharfedale" drive or "removable" drive (followed by a letter). Now open up your file where your music is stored, reduce the window so you can see the My computer window underneath and your mp3 drive now simply drag the pices of music onto your mp3 and it should copy them on to it. Hi 'kimbosavee'......I have agree with 'scarlett' and 'fo2nif' I have an ip4200 and a year ago my son got an ip4300, which replaces the ip4200. With printers the thing you have to think about is not the cost of the printer , but the cost of the inks. That is why one of the great things about most Canon printers is the individual inktanks. If you buy a printer with just one 'coloured inktank' it will cost you a fortune because you will have to replace it as soon as one of the three colours 'runs out' even though there is still capacity in the other colours.

good point made by zinnie, but be warned - my epson printer is totally rubbish. sure it has seperate ink cartridges for the different colours to be replaced seperatley...accept, and heres the con...

if blue runs out, but i want to print in black, even though i have a full black ink cartridge loaded - the computer looks at me, and says

"NO! NOT UNTIL YOUVE REPLACED BLUE, I WONT PRINT BLACK!"

run out of red? want to print in black?

"NO! NOT UNTIL YOUVE REPLACED RED, I WONT PRINT BLACK!"

stupid isnt it? believe me, its the most annoying thing in the world - i dont even use it anymore, hate the thing. usless junk. In other words, its all good having seperate ink slots, but pointless if the software refuses to let you print until all youve refilled the others anyway.

kimbo- if you do decide to go with the canon, be warned- when you get a message saying that ink has run out- it hasn't! It tells you this before it actually has run out. Ignore the warning and carry on. If necessary, cancel the print, then print again. Keep going until the ink really does run out!
