Phoning International - using 141?

Can you use the 141 number before dialling an international number (UAE) mobile to mobile to keep your number private? Or does it only work for dialling numbers in the UK? Cheers.

Short of trying my friend in America just to find out, I'd expect 141 to be a mechanical type bar, so once it's been pressed then your number is prevented from being shown at your end. Therefore if it leaves the UK the bar is on already. A system that switched it off when going abroad would not just be unnecessary but quite hard to perform. However, many countries are not compatible with 141 and 1471, so they wouldn't display any numbers from abroad, just as we couldn't a few years ago. It took me hours to ring back a number left on my phone until I realised it was an American one rather than a mistake from here.
