Internet Explorer 'error reports' !

Hi - I defragged my laptop last night and now today I have been able to connect to the internet but if I go click onto a link in that page I get a continous error message 'internet exploerer has encountered a problem and needs to close' !!! I have no history in my address bar either, tried to do a system restore but you need to be connected to do this, it still keeps coming up with this error report...doing my head in ! Help......
