How do i unlock a hibernating PC?

I'm running Windows XP and left the PC switched on overnight when i went to restart the PC it wouldn't reboot.
From the Windows XP main page the page dissappears almost immediately and a page asking to restart Windows normally after 30seconds or from sleep mode. however when i select these options the PC still will not restart. Any help would be appreciated

Try re-introducing XP by putting your XP DVD rom(that came with the pack) in and restarting XP.
I don't know if I can help, but since Dundurn is at one end of Loch Earn, I couldn't resist!

Is this a desktop or a laptop PC? If you haven't got anything volatile that you need to save, i.e.you just left the PC on for ease of startup, I'd just switch off, and in the case of a laptop, remove the battery as well. It should then start up OK. Best of luck.
