Ipod device that tells you how far you have walked?!

Someone recently told me about a device that I think you put into your trainer and it then somehow connects to you ipod and can tell you how far you have walked?! Has anyone heard of this and if so how much is it / where is it from?! Thanks

That's exactly what I meant thank you - unfortunately I have an ipod mini, not nano. Thanks though - that site has given me details of alternatives to help my training! :-)
