Is this a dialup or broadband connection ? In the case of dial-up, try setting up another connection with another ISP and see if that makes a difference. If it's broadband, try uninstalling and re-installing your connection/modem (making sure you have the logon details stored somewhere). Of course it may just be that your ISP is rubbish, so try ringing their helpdesk and checking that they are not having problems and that you have the right details. (Some BT broadband usernames/passwords have to start with an uppercase character - is that the case with you ??)

its a dial up, its with virgin.net, if i set up another conenction can i stil get back to virgin?
Of course, just make sure you don't delete your virgin connection (in my network connections in XP) Try someone like ukf.net for an easy to install dial up connection (I have no links to them, but I have found them reliable) and see if that manages to stay connected. If that drops out a lot too, it may well be that you have a virus that is corrupting your account details everytime you connect. And now the standard stuff which probably sounds patronising, but isn't meant to be.....check that your antivirus software is up to date and that your firewall is on. Do a full scan, run adaware, spybot etc etc.
Are you sure that the `disconnect after so many minutes' is not enabled in the dial-up advanced settings.(Many ISPs software enable this automatically) If so un-tick it as even downloads register as non-activity.
