Colours on laptop screen gone haywire

I have a problem with the screen on my Compaq Presario C300 laptop. All I get is a 'test card' of vertical coloured stripes. It is possible that I have sprained the lid / hinges through carrying it around by the lid with it open. I know this is not a clever thing to do but if I close the lid it immediately goes into hibernate mode. If I squeeze the screen I can get a glimpse of the Windows desktop but not for long enough to do anything. Is there any way I can get at the lid / screen fixings so that I can see what if anything has got damaged? Thanks for any advice.

if you are lucky you've dislodged the cable.

if unlucky ... you've bust the display .... kerching .... �200.00!!!
quite expensive for a handle

I'm not familiar with that machine ... there should be screws though (probably covered by blanks)
