Skype problems

When I try to use Skype it freezes my laptop. I have to switch off and then on at the mains, then Scandisc runs before I can use the laptop again.Skype providers cannot help.I have uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen times. The same happens when someone uses Skype to contact me. Anyone got any ideas? Its not firewall as I have tried with it switched off. Getting very frustrated. Thanks . Expat Ann

sounds like you are running windows 98 (which version - 98, se or me)?

the forums are full of conflicting will/won't work opinions ....
possibly due to the software version being used
