It will state when you last used the program so you can take a view as to how important / well used a program is. Also make sure you empty your recycle bin as if you have deleted any large files they'll still be on your pc until you delete them out of the recycle bin.
Bar far the biggest files that exist on computers is video.
Have you been downloading videos or films from web sites?
If so see if there is any you can delete or maybe back up to CD orDVD.
Windows has a useful Search facility (on the Start menu) and if you search for "Files and Folders" by size you can find out the largest files on your computer.
DONT just delete files because thet are large (they may be important system files) but if you spot some video files that are large delete them.
Also clear out your recycle bin.
Also clear out your temporary internet files (you can do that from your browser)

I'd leave it at the side of the road and get a taxi!!!

you have a couple of options.
however .... because you haven't given much (any) details about machine (processor/laptop\desktop or disc size .... it's general.
1 Try CCCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/download
2 you could fit a new hard disc ... either internal or external
