I have heard that Sony have won the competition to provide HD drives. Indeed they seem to have got their own back after the VHS/Betamax fight. I have also hesard that Microsoft will stop building HD-DVD add ons for the x-box 360 from May this year. This seems to add credence to the rumour. Any truth in this ????

I believe blu-ray WILL win. We'll see.
Sony lost out on the Betamax/ HVD fight, I 've said since the start that they would use their muscle to win this battle and that's what happened.

I attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vages last month and the buzz there was that (alledgedly!!!)
Sony paid a brib.....sorry, a financial incentive to certain movie studios to dump Toshiba's HD-DVD format and go with Blu Ray exclusively.
In the short term, blu-ray has won.

In the long term, both lose, and your phone and cable companies own the keys to the castle. Once they upgrade the telecom lines to get real download speeds, both formats will become irrelevant for little other than backups and personal sharing use.
