Barclays bank unveiled the first ATM at Enfield in 1967. Originally customers had a token that was placed in the machine and a set amount of cash would be dispensed. the token would be retained by the machine and was sent back to the customer by post to use again. How convenient.
There was something about this recently in my newspaper with the surprising information that the worlds first ATM was installed in the UK, but alas Icannot remember when, where or by who. Might be worth looking at some of the UK banks websites tho'.
