In Internet Explorer, the History folder contains only addresses of those sites which have been actively "visited", ie either by clicking ona link which takes youi to a site, or entering the site URL in the Address bar at the top. Pop-ups do not appear in History, until and unless you click on a link in the pop-up which takes you to the advertised site - the site then gets added into History.
