MP3 files playable in Car CD Changer
7 Answers
Please can someone suggest a good, free program for burning downloaded MP3 music files onto CD and being able to play that CD in a car CD Changer.
I've tried Nero Express with no joy at all. The "jukebox" MP3 disc creation part creates a disc that's totally silent in the car as does the standard MP3 disc creation method.
If I create a CD using the Nero method that automatically converts MP3 files to a format that will play on "any player", the resulting disc jumps here and there in the car and on my hi-fi. The MP3 files are perfect with no jumping when played on the PC from the HDD, so I'd prefer to burn these to disc directly if possible.
The car CD Changer states in the manual that it will play MP3 files so I really don't know what to do next apart from trying to burn using other software.
Many thanks.

Usually, with XP, you highlight what you want, right click and select copy, then insert a blank disk into your CDRW, explore the CDRW, then right click and paste.
It'll look like the PC has copied over shortcuts, but if you look at the menu on the left hand side of that window, you should see an option to "write these files", or something similar.
This will then burn the files to the CD.
If your car CD player does indeed play MP3 files, you should now be able to just take that disk to your car and play the files.
Hope this helps.
Let us know if it does! :)

An alternatve to burning CD's is to get a Belkin FM Transmitter.
If you have an iPod, then the Belkin plugs into the iPod, you then are given an option to tune your iPod into a radio frequency that is not used, then you tune your car radio to the same and your iPod will play through that frequency.
It's handy for charging your iPod too, which is done through the cigarette lighter.
You get the Belkin at Halfords for around 20. I ended up doing this as I couldn't convert my MP3's to CD, I have to admit I was dubious as to what it would sound like and if the sound would waver, but it's been great (unless I'm in a tunnel)
