DVD Burner issue
5 Answers
My pc has a NEC DVDRW burner, AD-7170S model, SATA unit, and a TSST corp DVD +-RW, TSH653A model.
Both are supposed to be compatible with plus and minus disks, running a scan on Nero shows that they're compatible with both, and the pc tells me that I need to use dvd+r or dvd-r (or the RW versions). It tells me this every time it spits out a minus disc as 'unwriteable' - it just will not recognise minus discs.
Any suggestions please???

when it spits a - is the disc shown as full or empty in explorer?
first try burning a - at single speed - then at half speed
then beg/borrow an alternative brand
(you could even try a CD and see what happens)
an "ordinary" burner conforms to a frightening number of formats ... so it's not impossible to loose some of them (but it is unusual)

Hi AC - thanks. Yes, they burn + perfectly well, and will play any format.
When it rejacts the dics it states that the disc is not writeable, and I've tried three brands at different speeds.
I'm using dvd-shrink and nero, could that affect it?
Also, when i put in a disc without a prog running it shows it as a blank disc.

Nero is normally pretty good
the only thing I can think to try is
http://www.imgburn.com/
problem is ... you'll need to uninstall nero first - which is a bit of a pain
alternatively if you have an ISO kicking about (nero will oblige)
burncdcc will work
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads-fre e-software.htm
and doesn't req uninstall nero.
if that no workee ... given what you've said - I suspect that drive is faulty.
anyone else got thoughts???
