My computer keeps going to an all-white screen, with no options but to pull the plug and re-start. Is there a reason for this or do I continue to go in to a temper tantrum, throwing things about?

This is normally associated with Dell pc's running Winows 95/98/me or 2000.
A White Box of Doom or White screen of death will appear if an error occurs while loading a system-critical application or process, such as the system shell (e.g. Explorer.exe).
I believe the only way around it,is to reinstall Windows.
Maybe you could try a system restore to before it happened or a Windows repair.
