Further to my previous thread, I have a memory card from an Olympus camera, I have now bought a Canon. Can I use the old memory card and if so, do I have to format it somehow, or do I have to use a brand new one ? No technical answers please !

there are lots of different types of memory cards, if it the same sort you can use it, and no shouldn't have to be formatted.

I would say it is unlikely to be the same sort though.

However most types of memory card a really cheap now so not a big problem to get a new one, most canon cameras I have seen take SD cards for memory, check the manual to confirm this, if so selection here

If its a SD then yes it will be OK in your camera, but recent Olympus generally take XD,in which case it isn't compatible.
If you have a card reader with your computer you can always use the old card as a storage device (rather like a USB flash drive)
