I have just bought a Novag 'citrine' chess computer which comes with a 'serial connection lead' to connect to a PC, but when I connect it nothing happens. Normally when I connect anything I get a message saying: new hardware found. Any ideas?

serial ! SERIAL!!!!!!
I'm surprised they can still get the bits ....

serial isn't plug and play (which is how your pc does the detecting)

just connect and install the driver/software - run the software ... and you should be ok

Thanks, any ideas on the 'driver/software' needed?
I'm also shocked that anything is still being supplied with serial lead, most of my computers haven't even got a serial port!!

I don't think any software or drivers comes with the board, the connection to the computer enables you to use a wide range of chess software. (using the UCI or universal chess interface, who would have thought there would be a standard for that!!)

I have no idea how to use it or what it does though.

Thanks for your help, I've got it all going now. If my PC didn't have a 'serial port' I would still be stuck.
