how do I transfer stuff to my new external hard drive please

I just bought the "Freecom Hard Drive 500GB External USB-2, silver "

I plan to use it with a mac and pc and it said it was already formatted in fat42?? and it said that fat42 was mac and pc compatible.

I have 2 questions
1) Can I transfer data such as my photos and movies to this harddrive from my mac and then take this hard drive into the office and transfer them to my pc? Or is this impossible are the mac and pc sections on the hard drive separate/divided?

2) How do I actually transfer for example my photo's (from iphoto) or my movies from a folder on the the hard drive, there are no actual instructions for this with the hard drive and I dont want to lose something inportant by not asking someone who knows.

1 - doubtful. I can't see how a mac disk would be able to be read on a PC

2 - Plug it into your USB and it should be available under "My Computer" as a removable disk. It's then just a case of copying and pasting your folders from your hard drive to it.

think you find it formatted in fat32, not 42

1) yes, most computers can read and write to fat32 partitions with no problem so transferring to and from pc and mac won't be a problem.

2)several different ways, but basically when you connect the drive it will show as another hard drive in my computer in windows and you can simply drag and drop files to and from it. on a mac same principle except the drive will appear as an icon on the desktop.

I just right click on whatever it is i want to move and send to the external drive, which on my pc is named as new volume.
