ntoskrnl.exe
3 Answers
When running the free AVG antivirus a box came up showing ntoskrnl.exe under Result/Infection with Change below that. Should I be doing something about it? I looked on Google and found a few sites with free downloads to correct it, but I don't want to create more problems as everything seems to be working ok.
Thanks for any advice.

When AVG says it's under infection your system can be unstable in the future. By the way the best antivirus system I've ever used is Bullguard 8.0 which can stop NToskrnl against any network connection to always keep it safe just like anyy others system files that should be safe. You can't allow them to make any network connection
What has probably happened is that AVG has detected a change to the ntoskrnl. This is most likely following a windows update being downloaded which has then made the changes. If you are not experiencing any other problems then I wouldn't worry. You could accept the change in AVG and then you wont get the notification in future.
Beware of any sites offering fixes as generally they do a partial scan - tell you you have problems, which you dont, - and then ask for a payment to download the product.
Run an anti spyware programme just to make sure that there are no nasties lurking in the system.
