its one where the solder has cracked or wasn't completely soldered in the first place causing a poor connection or no connection
in solder, there is a substance called flux that is mixed in with the lead. This helps the solder flow when melted. A dry joint is where the flux forms a layer between the two surfaces, not allowing electricity to flow. This is quite rare, tho.
