Can the internal receiving antenna in a laptop, be switched off completely, enabling work to be carried out on the machine completely off line? 711.

Yes, otherwise you wouldn't be allowed to take it on a plane.

Thanks, Ethel. Haven`t got one yet, but as a young child will be using it, I would want to try to eliminate antenna radiation - much bad publicity re - this. 711

My Acer has an orange LED type light at the front - a sneakily designed switch for enabling/disabling the wifi.

Took me ages to find it. But all laptops will have a switch somewhere.

My Toshiba has a slide switch on the base. Whoever designed that ought to have their thingies spifflicated. Easy to switch it off when the laptop is on your lap.
Oh, that's right... one is not supposed to use a laptop on one's lap. Duhh to Toshiba.

Yes, all the little switch does is turn of the WIFI card so it will no longer be connected to the internet.

With my Fujitsu Siemens wifi is automatically off when you turn on, and you can use it for all off line tasks.

Turning wifi on is not done by switch. Instead you hold down Fn and press F2. This cannot be done accidentally.
